We believe that many travelers are looking for a purposeful experience instead of just a vacation. Stay on Purpose, Make your Mark offers our guests the opportunity to give a few hours of their time to positively impact the community the enjoy as visitors by volunteering with one of our local nonprofit partners.

How a planned experience works at the Cartier Mansion

Upon booking your stay, please call us to discuss what organization you would like to volunteer with. Our partners ask for a minimum 3-hour commitment towards the project we have planned at each location. If you choose to offer more of your time, that can be arranged. Each project has unique availability and needs, so please contact us as early as possible to plan your experience.

Be a Lighthouse Keeper

A Planned Experience at the Cartier Mansion
Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association, SPKLA, was formed in 1987 by a small group of Local Ludington residents dedicated to restoring and persevering many of the Lighthouses located in the Western Michigan area. SPLKA oversees the restoration and maintenance of Big Sable Point Lighthouse, Little Sable Point Lighthouse, Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse, and the White River Light Station. 

The responsibilities of restoring and managing four historic lighthouses on the shores of Western Michigan have been rewarding. Our mission is to preserve, promote, educate the public and make our lighthouse accessible to all.

A Planned Experience at the Cartier Mansion
Habitat for Humanity of Mason County is a non-profit organization that offers a hand-up in securing safe, decent, affordable housing to members of our community.

Throughout the year, we offer many ways for people to volunteer their talents to help support our mission:

Neighbor to Neighbor-
Volunteers of all skill levels will be matched up with elderly/disabled homeowners to help with small beautification projects such as painting, landscaping, yard work, etc. improve the curb appeal in our community and bring pride to a homeowner in need.

Restore-
Our ReStore is our largest fundraiser and is run primarily by volunteers; all profits are used for community housing projects. Participate in a variety of areas within the store and socialize with folks from the community. Feeling creative? Work on a small upcycle/repurposing piece for us to sell in the ReStore to help increase sales.

A Planned Experience at the Cartier Mansion
Operating since October 2017, The Lakeshore Food Club continues to offer low-and moderate-income households the opportunity to increase their food security and take control of their food choices in its grocery store-style pantry. Each household self-verifies that their household income falls at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level of fall within ALICE guidelines (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.) Members must live, work, or have a household member enrolled in any school in Mason County.

The Lakeshore Food Club's mission is to provide dignified access to nutritious food resources to those in need in our community. The goal of the LFC is to lead an innovative approach to food security in Mason County. The uniqueness of the LFC is found in the grocery store experience, serving more than 675 low- to moderate-income households per month. Our goal is to inclusively provide our whole community with the assistance, dignity, and respect they deserve. Our hours of operation are modeled after a traditional grocery store. We are open Monday - Friday 11 am - 5 pm and Saturday 10 am - 12 pm allowing our members to shop at their convenience.
